Alexander Yarbrough Dissertation Defense

November 10 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Alexander Yarbrough will be defending his thesis, entitled Reform and Its Limits: The Bélisaire Affair and the Politics of Religious Toleration in Enlightenment France.

His dissertation deals with a 1760s literary/ censorship controversy, and has big implications for interpreting the workings and eventual failure of France’s Old Regime.  Alexander is getting a joint degree from the University of Paris-Sorbonne as well as the University at Buffalo, so  along with three UB faculty, there will also be three visitors on the defense panel, one from the Sorbonne, one from Brock in St Catherines Ontario, and one from MIT.  The defense may run longer than is typical, so please feel free to step out as needed.
